Mark Yelland joined me for talkRA podcast number 10. Mark has just co-written a new book with David Sherick, entitled “Revenue Assurance for Service Providers”. You can obtain the book from Amazon.com by following this link. The book is also available from Amazon.co.uk and Authors OnLine. We talked about Mark’s experience as a revenue assurance practitioner and how he has translated this into practical advice which is especially useful for the smaller operation that wants big RA results without necessarily needing to buy big RA systems. You can listen to the full hour-long conversation at talkRA.com, or by subscribing to the talkRA podcast through iTunes.

  1. For small to mid-sized telecoms who are constantly being prodded by vendors to buy RA software but don’t know where to begin, what to purchase, or how to think about the selection process, this podcast is for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion which is based on the real-life experiences of Mark Yelland, who was previously the Head of Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management at THUS plc (since acquired by Cable & Wireless).

Soft-spoken, but eloquent, Mark walks you through the ingenious, yet simple-to-understand techniques that guided his insertion of software in tandem with staff development and RA self-discovery at THUS. It’s delightful to hear Mark’s thought process and Eric’s excellent questions and follow-on interpretation.

In the second half of the podcast, you’re treated to Mark’s Revenue Assurance Dimensions theory, which parallels the RA maturity model somewhat, but is quite fresh and actually more business-value oriented that the maturity idea. The most powerful concept presented here is that of the 5th Dimension, an idea that transforms a Revenue Assurance operation from mere process auditor to competitive differentiator for a telco.

This is very easy listening stuff. Fine sound quality and an easy pace to follow. It feels like you’re in the living room with Mark and Eric. And it’s brimming with potent ideas you can take to the bank.
