RAG TV: Education, Information and Pattern Detection

Episode 7 of RAG TV featured Ingrid Azzopardi, who leads the internal audit function at Maltese operator GO, and machine learning guru Dr. George Bolt of Neural Technologies.

Ingrid Azzopardi (pictured, left) is a busy person during normal times, and the impact of COVID-19 means the world is currently far from normal. Yesterday Ingrid took time away from her job as Group Internal Auditor at GO, and from her other responsibilities including non-exec board membership of some of Malta’s leading banks and institutions, to speak to the RAG Television team. We talked about the impact of COVID-19 on her telco and the way fraudsters have tried to take advantage of the disruption. Ingrid told us of the need to educate both customers and employees about the tricks employed by fraudsters.

We were also joined by inventor and scientist Dr. George Bolt, who discussed some of the less common use cases for anomalous pattern detection in telcos. These include identifying errors when changing tariff plans and the pinpointing of mobile phones infected with spam-producing malware.

Co-host Lee Scargall shared his own analysis of the likelihood and consequences of being infected with coronavirus in various countries, and used this to illustrate key concepts in risk management. And there were too many varied and challenging questions submitted by the live audience to read them all out in the time available! If you have not watched it already, catch the replay of yesterday’s show below.
