T-Systems, the IT services and consulting subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has released a video to promote the revenue assurance services it supplied to Energie Steiermark, an Austrian business that provides 600,000 customers with renewable energy from water, wind, solar and biomass. The video begins with Energie Steiermark Managing Director Peter Trummer saying the revenue assurance approach of T-Systems was ‘very professional’ before dropping in an obligatory reference to data science. As Trummer goes into more detail it becomes clear the focus is on purely conventional tariff and billing work familiar to anyone who has done revenue assurance for telcos during the last 20 years. Trummer then explicitly refers to the revenue assurance experience T-Systems has gained from the telecoms industry, whilst claiming his business is the first Austrian energy provider to implement a revenue assurance system. My overriding impression is that the work done by T-Systems for Energie Steiermark would be easy for any team that has delivered revenue assurance for telcos. Larger telcos should seek to exploit the talents of their RA team, or else will see some of their assurance staff being headhunted by utilities.
