Commsrisk Top Ten for August 2022

An unexpected surge of traffic from the USA helped August to become the second most popular month in the history of Commsrisk.

It is easy to understand why Commsrisk kept setting new records for the number of monthly visitors whilst the world was gripped by the pandemic. Confinement led people to spend more time online, and the result was that Commsrisk was found by many new readers who have since helped to maintain audience figures at elevated levels since. However, this did interrupt the previously unbroken pattern of year-on-year growth, with a temporary fall in traffic levels coinciding with the relaxation of COVID‑19 restrictions. The steady upward rise of traffic soon resumed, but it was unclear how long it would take before the record number of visitors would be challenged again. So it was pleasing that the number of visitors during August was the second highest monthly total in the history of this website. The previous few months had also been strong but August included the single most popular week in Commsrisk’s history thanks to Americans who learned the name of serial robocaller Roy Cox Jr. on the TV news, and who then came to Commsrisk, via Google, to find out more. This also serves as an illustration of just how much ordinary people want scammers and spammers to finally get the punishment they deserve.

The following rundown presents the ten most popular Commsrisk articles during August as measured by unique pageviews.
