Thank you for your patience during this time. It is extraordinary to see how the audience statistics have bounced back to previous levels as if nothing ever changed. And so here is the return of the monthly rundown of the Commsrisk articles that received most traffic last month.
Each month I look for fresh insights by scrutinizing the readership data for Commsrisk. The geographic spread of readers is similar to before, except for a big rise in traffic from East Asian countries like Malaysia and the Philippines. The most interesting discovery is that Chat-GPT has climbed above Facebook as a source of referrals to Commsrisk, although the LLM is still only responsible for 0.5% of inbound traffic. The top two sources of traffic are Google and direct visits; each delivered approximately 40% of traffic during February. Nobody will be surprised by Google’s influence over the web, but people are often amazed when I tell them how much traffic Commsrisk receives from recurring visitors that have bookmarked the website. It is no surprise to me; the loyalty of Commsrisk’s followers motivates me more than anything else. As for the more transient visitors, LinkedIn referrals accounted for 10% of last month’s traffic, and X contributed a little over 1%.
When it comes to content, the leading two articles about HLR dipping and GSMA Call Check were far above all the others. Concerns about the war in Ukraine appear to have prompted a new surge in interest for an article published a full year ago, and new stories about SMS blasters encouraged visitors to go back through the archives and read older articles about the same topic. I was most pleased that the chart includes an article about the know-your-customer standard that I submitted to the i3Forum. Articles like this may be considered worthy but they tend not to be as viral as news about crimes and criminals. It is reassuring that the Commsrisk audience also wants to read about practical steps we can take to prevent crime before it occurs.
