Blown Away by the RAG Summer Conference

When the RAG Committee started talking about how other, larger telecoms conferences didn’t deliver what we would want to see as telco professionals, we asked ourselves ‘Could we do any better?’.  Then we decided that we should at least try.

Through toil, grit and determination we planned and had our first 2-day RAG conference.  And whilst it wasn’t easy, it was amazing and worth every hour of preparation.

My greatest concern would be that we would lose that interaction within the group that makes the RAG so unique and so valuable.  It’s easy to get lost in a sea of speakers and to become someone talked at rather than talked to.  But we succeeded.  We didn’t lose the feel of the RAG meetings and their interactive, collaborative nature.  We didn’t dilute the quality or interest levels of the topics being presented and discussed.  We also didn’t lose ourselves within sales and marketing.

The result of all this was that we had a conference unlike any other.  From my perspective, despite knowing the calibre of the agenda and its participants I was still truly amazed as to the quality of content and delivery – not to mention the inquisitive participation from the audience.

The RAG members are always thanked because they are the reason we do this – they make it special.  And those in attendance were vocal indeed!  Aside from all the intuitive questions being asked, it became clear that our members wanted change and weren’t shy about telling us.  Be it education, regulation, standardisation, lobbying for changes in law enforcement or others, change is needed and the members are as keen for us to be the vehicle for driving changes as they are to be involved.

In short, I’m blown away by how wonderful the sponsors, speakers and attendees made the summer meeting, and the RAG in general!

We want RAG to be all it can be.  To do what we all want it to.  Making sure we don’t lose what makes us unique and the spirit of the RAG is key.  Become a member for free and be a part of it.  2016 has been another ground-breaking year for the group and 2017 looks to be no different.

Look out for our Winter meeting, currently scheduled for Thursday 3rd November.
