Near the end of every December I devote three days to going through the events which represent the most important themes in risk management for comms providers and their customers, and I call it the Commsrisk review of the year. This is not that article. Whatever you or I may think about the magnitude and likelihood of certain risks, a good professional also needs to be conscious of what others think. If their opinions align with yours then your work will be a little easier. If their opinions are at odds with yours then you had better find ways to articulate your point of view, unless you always prefer to be quietly popular than to fight for the best results.
Popularity is important too. If you take on too many fights at once then you will lose them. Getting the best possible outcome means also making allowances for the risks that cause most worry for your colleagues and your customers. And so I start each new year with the annual top ten, the list of the articles which attracted most visitors to this website.
