Commsrisk Top Ten for January 2017

Commsrisk enjoyed buoyant readership figures in the first month of the new year. Part of the explanation was a social media campaign by WeDo Technologies which highlighted a series of articles relating to their business. Other vendors should take note!

Like every website, Commsrisk cannot thrive in a bubble, and nor does it control where inbound traffic comes from. If an external party makes a sustained effort to drive traffic towards Commsrisk, then the traffic will come our way, and will land on the pages being featured.

In my experience, some businesses make the mistake of thinking internet traffic will come to them if they just offer good content. In reality, good content is only the start of the process. It is also important to know where your audience is, and what their existing habits are. It is especially important to understand the difference between reaching an audience who might buy a chocolate bar, or be interested in some celebrity gossip, versus reaching a much smaller and tightly-defined professional market.

The surge of interest in WeDo articles shows their marketing team knows how to cultivate a following. This involves more than simply posting content to their own corporate site; there is a clue in the name of the ‘web’. Those who succeed create a series of complementary interconnections between key nodes, allowing them to convey and reinforce their message by drawing on a variety of sources.

Extra value can be extracted by periodically reminding the audience about messages that were successful before, and simply need to be repeated so they are heard by people who missed them first time, whilst jogging the memories of those who heard but have yet to act upon the message.
