Commsrisk Top Ten for March 2024

Did you miss any of the big stories about risk in the communications sector? These articles received most attention during March.

Commsrisk has always received most of its web traffic from knowledgeable people who come to us directly. They do this by typing ‘commsrisk.com’ into their browser, or take the slightly less direct route of typing ‘commsrisk’ into Google. LinkedIn is the third most important source of traffic for Commsrisk, but it is a long way behind with less than a 10 percent share, and this share appears to be falling relative to the whole because of an unexpected but prominent rise in traffic from a large array of smaller sources.

There has been a significant uptick in traffic from search engines that compete with Google, with both Bing and DuckDuckGo featuring a lot more than previously. The latter might be drawing in readers who are especially interested in privacy stories, such as the recent string of articles about IMSI-catchers. The most surprising development has been the noticeable growth in traffic from visitors who evidently clicked links in email newsletters or online forums that are managed independently of Commsrisk. This must mean that an increasing number of curators of newsletters and forums are reading Commsrisk with the intention of recycling our news to their followers.
