Commsrisk Top Ten for October 2020

October saw a continuation of the elevated level of traffic that has become the new norm for Commsrisk in 2020. A surge of interest in the final few posts was sufficient to lift the total number of visitors to a new record for a calendar month; this is the third time the record has been broken this year. The data speaks for itself: Commsrisk’s popularity represents an essential shift in how telecoms risk managers obtain information, and the transformation has been accelerated by the impact of the pandemic on working patterns.

Whilst web traffic has risen significantly, this has not been because of social media. During October, LinkedIn generated 7.7 percent of inbound traffic, Twitter was the source for nearly 2 percent, and Facebook delivered 1 percent. Almost 90 percent of traffic comes from visitors who have bookmarked Commsrisk or who found it via a web search. This implies that the growth in traffic from those sources must be due to a mixture of personal recommendations and Commsrisk’s content featuring towards the top of searches that people perform.

Those who spend too much time in a social media bubble may not be aware of what is happening in the wider world, but fundamental change is apparent to anyone with access to the relevant data. This is illustrated by the devices preferred by Commsrisk visitors in different regions. Readers in Europe and the Americas are still more likely to use desktops than mobile phones, but the gap between desktops and mobiles has narrowed considerably in Europe, and there has been a noticeable increase in traffic from mobile phone users in Asia and Africa. However, there continue to be rivals to Commsrisk that have still not been redesigned for mobile phones! This makes me wonder if the people behind those websites have ever considered who their readers are.

These were the ten most popular Commsrisk articles during October, as ranked by unique pageviews.
