Commsrisk Top Ten for September 2017

Commsrisk suffered a crisis near the beginning of September. It went offline because it exceeded the limits of its hosting package. The solution was pretty straightforward: spend more and upgrade to a service that could accommodate more traffic. Nevertheless, I had been caught by surprise because I misinterpreted the data. I knew the statistics kept showing that Commsrisk’s most popular posts keep setting new records, but I was too focused on the leading posts that feature in the monthly top ten. What I had failed to notice was the rise in the number of hits for all posts.

Popularity is a good thing, but it can come at a cost. With that in mind, I would like to thank all the sponsors of Commsrisk, and everyone who contributes articles. Readers can enjoy Commsrisk for free, but the cost of running the site is borne by many, whether they donate time or money. I rarely get a suitable opportunity to express my gratitude, but they all deserve it. Hopefully they will feel rewarded by the rising number of visits to this website.

The upgrade to Commsrisk’s server was more than justified by the popularity of articles published afterwards. Here is the rundown of the top ten posts for the month, as ranked by unique page views.

  1. Ten defining moments at RAG Johannesburg
  2. Roam like home – a broken window for fraud
  3. Con artist copies cover of GRAPA’s RA book
  4. Hacking your phone’s touchscreen
  5. Is OTT direct carrier billing the next big assurance challenge?
  6. Fear is our friend
  7. RAG Africa: full steam ahead
  8. Ericsson bribery part 2: too little responsibility, too late?
  9. MTN: collaboration in assurance
  10. Vodacom shows why telcos should face their mistakes
