iBASIS, the world’s 3rd largest wholesale voice carrier, has announced it will partner with Mobileum, which provides roaming and analytics solutions for telcos. The announcement said the deal would make it easy and efficient to deliver value-added roaming services like steering of roaming, signalling firewalls, and border roaming management.
iBasis is a leading communications solutions provider enabling operators and digital players worldwide. It was created by Tofane Global acquiring iBasis from KPN.
The statement from the two companies emphasised Mobileum’s analytics and signalling firewall services in the partnership announcement:
Bringing together strengths in technology, roaming expertise and hosted and managed services, the companies, both recognized as Tier 1 leaders by researchers at ROCCO, join forces to help operators better manage and monetize services in the fast-growing space where IoT and IPX intersect.
Under the terms of the agreement, iBASIS will use Mobileum’s capabilities in roaming value-added services across its IPX and Global Access for Things™ IoT solutions. The partnership provides operators with cloud-based access to a variety of roaming value-added services and IoT enterprises, ensuring they receive the maximum coverage and quality of service as well as simplified access to more than 700 mobile networks worldwide.
Mobileum’s Roaming Steering solution maximizes roaming margins by automatically guiding roaming traffic in the right direction based on analytics-driven insight into technology, quality of service, business targets and wholesale costs.
Its Signalling Firewall is designed to support both group and individual operator requirements, as well as requiring no replacement as networks evolve. The firewall was nominated for a Glomo award in March.
Mobileum was bought by Audax Private Equity, a US private equity firm in 2016, and has been doing a lot of deals recently.
These include:
- Buying UK signalling security specialists Evolved Intelligence in October 2018. Evolved Intelligence solutions have already been incorporated into the networks of signalling vendors such as Syniverse, Comfone and TNS.
- Partnering with wholesale telecoms platform provider Linxa in February 2019. Linxa’s platform empowers service providers to grow their wholesale business by: simplifying the interconnect process for voice, SMS and OTT service providers; providing a comprehensive set of tools for managing and optimizing wholesale business; and automating the end-to-end processes involved in rating, routing, monitoring and billing.
- Partnering with Allot in March 2019. Allot is a leading global provider of innovative network intelligence and security solutions for service providers and enterprises worldwide.
