New Lifetime Achievement Award for Telco Risk Pros

Risk Reward Awards is a new nonprofit body which aims to stimulate interest and investment in telecoms risk management by highlighting the best work in the field. It was recently announced that their first award will be for lifetime achievement in telco risk management. The award will be presented this April, at the London conference of the Risk & Assurance Group (RAG), following a nomination process that will invite input from practitioners worldwide. The announcement states:

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to individuals who have contributed, collaborated, driven innovation and improved risk management in the telecoms industry. Winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be entered into the Risk Reward Hall of Fame.

Four awards will be granted annually, and they will be given on a regional basis, beginning with the award for work done in Europe. Later in the year there will be awards given for work performed in the Middle East and Africa, Asia and Australasia, and the Americas.

The organizers of the awards have promised they will soon launch “a voting and polling mechanism to allow individuals in the telecoms risk space to nominate their colleagues and peers for the Lifetime Contribution Award.” They also confirmed that the award will be open to people working in a wide range of fields, whether they are employed by “telecom service providers or consultants, vendors, industry bodies or regulators.”

Luke Taylor, founder of the awards, said the following:

Real authentic recognition is long overdue in the telecoms industry for individuals who have contributed to the prevention of fraud, bad debt and revenue loss. We need the newer individuals in this space to see that the risk industry is recognising their endeavours and contribution.

RAG Chairman Rob Chapman explained why he was so glad that RAG London will host the first presentation ceremony for the new awards:

There is some great work taking place in telecoms risk management but it doesn’t always get the appreciation it deserves. It’s easy to celebrate victories, but our industry needs to do more to reward the professionals who mitigate and prevent losses, because their work can be just as valuable. These new Risk Reward Awards will really help to raise the profile of telecoms risk management.

RAG London is one of several free conferences run by RAG for the benefit of telecoms risk and assurance practitioners. It will be held at the London headquarters of BT on April 24th and 25th.
