***Yawn*** Another day goes by, and another market research report is being touted around for the price of USD4,300. This one is by TechNavio, and it estimates that the global telecom operation management system market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.23 percent over the period 2014-2019. They define operation management systems as anything from network management, to billing, to workforce management, to revenue assurance. So what is obviously wrong with this one? It did not take long to spot some pretty glaring flaws. For example, the list of ‘key’ vendors includes these firms:
- cVidya Networks
- Subex
But look who is on the list of ‘other’ prominent vendors.
- WeDo Technologies
Seriously? They put the market leader in business assurance in the ‘other’ category, whilst saying smaller rivals were ‘key’ players?
And then I spotted this name on the list of other prominent vendors.
- Teleonto Technologies
Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that Teleonto disappeared over three years ago, when the business ran out of money and the CEO literally went on the run from the police.
I have nothing against Teleonto. They once gave me a mug (pictured above) though the quality was so poor that the ink somehow smeared whilst the mug sat at the back of my cupboard. However, I find it hard to believe that a research analyst has learned anything new about the market by talking to Teleonto recently. In fact, the only thing you would learn by talking to them is that investors sometimes waste their money on businesses that promise growth but sink without trace.
There was probably lots more wrong with this research report, but I stopped reading about it. In truth, I should have never started reading in the first place.
