Safaricom and Neural Win Award for M-Pesa AML

Last week Neural Technologies and Safaricom were recognized at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards for the anti-fraud, anti-money laundering (AML) monitoring they have implemented for M-Pesa, Safaricom’s wildly successful mobile money service.

Patrick Kinoti, Head of Revenue Assurance at Safaricom, said:

This project exceeded our expectations and I am pleased to have won this global award. Since its implementation, we have undertaken a number of investigations and closed down fraud and money laundering rings, and passed details of suspected criminals onto the authorities. It is both impressive and game-changing within the industry.

The award was one of several given in the ‘Mobile Infrastructure Innovation’ category.
