The guest for our 28th podcast was John Brooks (pictured above). John needs little introduction as he has spent most of the last two decades either explaining revenue assurance to telcos who have never heard of it before, or telling telcos what products and services they need to lift their assurance and risk management efforts to the next level.
I first met John back at the start of the century, when he wowed attendees of a European conference by orchestrating a sophisticated roleplay demonstration of Connexn’s revenue assurance tool. This involved several people adopting different jobs in the telco whilst multiple big screens showed how their systems interacted. John was the narrator and conductor; he explained to the audience how all the different people and systems worked together, with the result that leakages were identified and resolved. You could see the impact on many people who received the demo: it was the first time they had properly visualized what revenue assurance is meant to be. John continues to be an excellent communicator and advocate in our field, now working as the Vice President responsible for product management at Subex. He keeps rolling back the boundaries of what risk and assurance tools and services can offer, and advocating for telcos to extend the reach of their controls and to do more to mitigate their risks. As such, John is the perfect guest to discuss the state of the risk and assurance market amidst the transformation of telcos worldwide.
We were also joined by Black Swan Editor and regular co-host Dan Baker. They have known each other for years, so Dan shared some anecdotes about John on the podcast.
