The Economist on Huawei and Security

An excellent article in The Economist describes the security fears prompted by Chinese telecoms manufacturer Huawei; see here. Chinese hackers are relentlessly pursuing commercial and national secrets, as are those of other states. Who is better placed to eavesdrop than the supplier of a communications network? But the article also points out that Western manufacturers also get a lot of their manufacturing done in… erm… China. The conclusion: if you want security, then dive into the detail of how equipment works. The helicopter view of a supplier’s headquarters will tell you nothing.
